Just the knowledge that a good book is awaiting one at the end of a long day makes that day happier.

Little Willie lives with his grandpa and his dog Searchlight. When his grandpa gets sick and is in danger of losing the farm to the tax collector, Willie decides to enter a dog-sled race to use the prize money to pay off the taxes. He and his dog work hard to get ready and they look like they have a really good chance of winning except for one thing. An Indian called Stone Fox is also entering the contest, and he has never lost!

What is it about dogs that causes people to write so many great books? This one is among the best. If you like dogs, you need to read this book! It's a short, easy read, but it is a powerful and moving story!
